Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have received a major setback ahead of their crucial IPL 2025 fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with star opener Travis Head ruled out due to Covid-19.
Head coach Daniel Vettori confirmed the development, stating, “He had Covid-19, and unfortunately, he couldn’t travel. We’re hopeful of having him back for the next game once he’s fully recovered and cleared to join the squad.” The Australian batter is currently in isolation and will undergo medical assessment before returning to action.
Head has not been in his best form this season, a stark contrast to his spectacular performance in IPL 2024. In 11 matches this season, he has managed just 281 runs at an average of 28.10 and a strike rate of 156.11. While those are respectable numbers, they fall short of the standards he set last year.
In IPL 2024, Head was instrumental in SRH’s journey to the final, scoring 567 runs in 15 matches at an average of 40.50 and a blistering strike rate of 191.55. His fearless hitting at the top of the order made him one of the most dangerous batters in the league.
His absence could heavily impact SRH’s top-order strategy, especially against LSG, a team with a potent bowling attack. SRH may now have to consider alternatives like Mayank Agarwal or Rahul Tripathi to open alongside Abhishek Sharma.
With SRH battling for a playoff spot, the timing of Head’s unavailability is unfortunate. Fans and the team alike will be hoping for a swift recovery, with SRH’s next fixture likely to determine their fate in the tournament.
